Esther Gustafson 
Born: 1913Died: 3-Oct-2012 Esther VanDerSchaegen died on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Elderwood in Hinckley. She was 99 years, 6 months and 13 days old.
Esther Christina VanDerSchaegen was born to Gustaf and Hannah Gustafson on March 20, 1913 in Friesland, MN. She attended the Goff school west of Friesland and then the Hinckley school where she finished the 8th grade and then moved to Rutledge.
She was at a dance with Lawrence Dupois at Dosch's, Pine Lake Dance Hall, when she met Mike for the first time. They dated for 2 years before marrying at the age of 17.
On December 3, 1930, she was married to Mike VanDerSchaegen in Sandstone, MN. That union lasted for 63 years. They made their home in the Sandstone and Friesland areas, where they farmed.
Her first job, at the age of 15, was driving pulp truck. Some of her other jobs were at Halverson Poultry Ranch, where she cleaned up to 400 chickens a day, candling eggs for Anderson Poultry, clerking for Boyd's Clothing Store. She also spent 30 years working as a Nurses Aid at the Pine County Memorial Hospital, from 1956 to 1986. She enjoyed playing the piano, playing games, crocheting, needlepoint, reading and traveling.
She is survived by 3 sons, Jerry (Bonnie) of Sandstone, MN, Bob (Yvonne) of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Pete (Janeece) of Cambridge, MN, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Son - Ken, Daughter - Joyce, 3 Brothers — Carl, Arthur, Elmer and her twin brother - at birth, 3 Sisters — Ellen, Ruth, and Mildred, and Grandsons Gary, Keith and Scott.
She will be missed by many friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the United Church of Christ in, Sandstone, with Rev. Rebecca Ellenson officiating. Music is being provided by Virginia Schaefer. Visitation is on Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 4 until 6 P.M. at Methven Funeral Home, in Sandstone, as well as one hour prior to the service at church. Casketbearers are Greg, Craig, Jeremy, Shannon, Brett, Ross and Todd VanDerSchaegen, and Nathan Peterson. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Friesland.
