Julia Peterson Female

Born: 14-Jun-1905
Died: 27-Aug-1990   Julia VanDerSchaegen, 85, of Shelton, WA, died Monday Aug. 27, 1990, in Roo-Lan Healthcare Center in Lacey.

She was born June 14, 1905 to William and Rosa (Bollero) Gottwald in Iron Belt, Wis. She graduated from Iron Belt High School and Ashland County Normal School in Ashland, Wis.

She was married to Joseph O. Peterson in September 1928, in Upson, Wis. (Mr. Peterson died in 1947.)

She taught elementary school in Saxon, Wis. from 1948-1949, in Iron Belt from 1950-52, and then in Ashland, Wis. from 1952-1970.  She earned a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Wisconsin in Superior, Wis in 1955.

she was remarried in June 1970, to Valere VanDerSchaegen, in Saxon, Wis.

Mrs. VanDerSchaegen enjoyed landscaping, furniture restoration and chair caning, as well as bird watching, fishing and hunting, and was a rock hound.

She was a member of the Iron County Historical Society and Northern Highlands Retired Teachers.

Surviving are two daughters, Rose Marie Peterson Stricker, Shelton, and Julie Ann Peterson Hebert, Olympia; a son-in-law, Ed Stricker,  Shelton; two sisters, Rose Gottwald, Iron Belt, Wis., and Augusta Gottwald Nelson, Montreal, Wis.; also nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. VanDerSchaegen will be in Pence, Wis. at a later date.  Burial will be in Upson, Wis.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Roo-Lan Activity Fund, Roo-Lan Healthcare Center
