Henricus Vanderschaeghe
Born: 18-Aug-1849
Died: 21-Nov-1922 Born in Wynghene, Belgium Died in Ruddervoorde, Belgium
Grace Vanderschaegen Hall writes in her letter of February 20, 1991, "I picked up this bit (dates) from the death cards that were received by my parents from Belgium over the many years of their life. These were the traditional "letters edged in black" which I recognized the moment I opened our rural mailbox. I fortunately saved all of the death cards of both Mother's and Dad's Belgium relatives which were loosely kept in one of Mother's dresser. At the time of clearing their home I did not realize their future importance."
The following is from Johan Verplancke: My father remembered that Henricus was "lid van den gemeenteraad" or member of the local council, when he died. In 1911 seven members of the local council of Ruddervoorde were elected, amongst them Henricus Vanderschaeghe. There were only seven candidates for seven seats. All candidates were members of the same catholic party. The next elections for the local council were held in 1921 (after WW I). This time there were eleven candidates but also the number of seats had increased to eleven seats. So, all candidates were elected, amongst them Henricus Vanderschaeghe. He stayed member of the local council until he died in 1922.
AD 1849, August 18 at 04:00 PM, before us, Louis Depelchin, alderman, civil servant charged to take care of the registry office of the village of Wingene, province of West Flanders, has appeared : Louis Vanderschaeghe, country man, 34 years old, born and living in Wingene, who has shown us a male baby born here today at 11:00 AM, a child of him and of his wife Rosalia Deleersnijder, farmer, 32 years old, born and living in Wingene. He declared the baby's first name is Henricus. All these was witnessed by Pieter Deleersnijder, 67 years, and Pieter Herman, 54 years, both labourers living in Wingene; both witnesses and the father declared they couldn't write because of ignorance. After the certificate had been read before them.
